The WAMPSP has been offering classes since 1992, first at Edith Cowan University(when it was known as the ECU Mathematics Problem Solving Program) and now at Perth Modern School. The program has maintained exceptional standards in teaching and in student achievement.
Professor Peter Taylor, Executive Director of the Australian Mathematics Trust has said of the program:
“The scheme offered at Edith Cowan under your direction more than meets the standards we would expect to apply in the conduct of these events in Schools. Regular structures classes by highly experienced teachers, together with properly conducted assessment ensure that students have the opportunity for participation and certification, which might not have been possible otherwise……
“There is no doubt that participation in these programs will increase the student’s enjoyment and appreciation of mathematics as a widely applicable subject, and also enhance the student’s capacity for tertiary study, particularly in an area related to Science, Engineering or Technology.
“In conclusion we strongly endorse the program which you are directing at Edith Cowan.” October 2001
The Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) selects and prepares students for the International Mathematics Olympiad as well as conducting a number of significant mathematics competitions including the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians. For further information see http://www.amt.edu.au/.
