Wikispaces is a service provided by free of charge for K-12 education. A Wikispace is a wiki (like a small website) set up by somebody in which they can place files and resources and communicate with members. The person who set it up can invite people to join their wiki and, in the case of education-based free wikis, only members can access the resources and information. For more information see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikispaces. A wikispace is essentially a free, limited-access website.
The WAMPSP directors (Dr Hoffman and Ms Reynolds) and the teachers on the program use the Parent Information Wikispace to let parents know important information. All parents are assumed to be members of this wiki and it may be the only source of critical information such as emergency class cancellations.
Hence, all parents of enrolled students are expected to join the Parent Information Wikispace. To use this, all parents must have an email address and will need a Wikispace account. This does not cost any money and messages and information for parents will be posted on this Wikispace.
The WAMPSP teachers may use their class wikispaces to summarise each week’s lesson and to give students access to necessary resources.
Hence, all enrolled students are required to join the Wikispace relevant to their class. In 2017, these Wikispaces are:
- Primary 1 4:00 Tuesday (Dr Hoffman’s class)
- Primary 2 5:00 Tuesday (Miss Berry’s class)
- Junior 1 4:00 Tuesday (Dr Hoffman’s class)
- Junior 2 5:00 Tuesday (Miss Berry’s class)
- Euler - both 4:00 and 5:00 Thursday classes (Mr Cirillo’s classes)
- Gauss 5:00 Wednesday (Ms Reynolds’ class)
- Noether 4:00 Wednesday (Dr Hoffman’s class)
Students in the Primary and Junior wikispaces are permitted to use their parent’s Wikispace membership to join their class wikis. All students in year 8 or older are required to have their own Wikispace membership and, hence their own email addresses.
In joining any of the WAMPSP wikispaces parents and students agree that they will only use their membership appropriately. Parents must not contact other students and students may not use their memberships with any hostile intent. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in exclusion from the program. We are sure that all parents understand this is to protect our students.
Information on how to join the relevant wikispaces will be provided once classes begin.
